The featured artist in this edition is: Huang Tzu-Ying.
Rising star of contemporary Chinese ink painting, Huang Tzu-Ying, is known for her emphasis on the interplay between emptiness and fullness, as well as the subtle transitions of ink tones. She skillfully employs brush control and layered ink techniques to create depth and dimensionality in her works. Huang excels at blending dynamic and tranquil elements within her compositions, using precise brushstrokes and the fluidity of ink to evoke a strong sense of rhythm and visual impact. Each piece strikes a perfect balance between serenity and intensity, inviting viewers to experience the emotional undercurrents and unique artistic charm embedded in her expressive style.
“Elegant Crane Movement” captures the grace and beauty of cranes, which hold deep symbolic meaning in Chinese culture, representing longevity and auspicious blessings. In the painting, the cranes dance elegantly against a misty gray background, creating a scene of fluidity and refinement. Huang Tzu-Ying uses bold, expressive brushstrokes to depict the form of the cranes, while employing specialized techniques to render the feathers with rich layers and tonal contrasts. Through a harmonious blend of strength and delicacy in her brushwork, as well as a fusion of traditional and contemporary ink tones, the piece radiates vitality and a strong sense of rhythm.
“Auspicious Signs” has been transformed into a folding fan through digital printing based on the original painting. Featuring a harmonious composition of purple irises and birds, the artwork evokes the fresh and delicate vitality of spring. Balancing movement and stillness, it conveys a sense of life and natural rhythm. The flowers are rendered with meticulous detail and layered hues, while the depiction of rocks employs a simplified yet powerful brush technique that maintains both strength and scholarly elegance. With refined brushwork, the piece expresses a deep reverence and appreciation for nature, inviting the viewer into a poetic and contemplative world.
A total of 20 artists from Taiwan and Japan have been invited by Kasashima Gallery to participate in the themed project “La Beauté dans Chaque Éventail”. The exhibition features a wide variety of art forms, including traditional Chinese ink painting, classical calligraphy, pen calligraphy, and contemporary art, showcasing the unique cultural and artistic styles of the East.
